ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Mexican gray wolf was nearly extirpated during the last century, but thanks to breeding efforts like those at the ABQ BioPark, the apex predator is making a slow comeback.

Learn more about Mexican gray wolf conservation and re-introduction efforts in the Southwest at Wolf Awareness Days from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.,October 18-20, at the ABQ BioPark Zoo.
“The ABQ BioPark Zoo has five Mexican gray wolves, including one pair recommended for breeding – Apache and Kawi,” said Audrey Lenzi, ABQ BioPark Zoo science education coordinator. “We have successfully bred 63 Mexican gray wolf pups over the years, which have contributed to the captive gene pool.”
Visitors who want to learn more about the BioPark’s wolf pack can speak to zookeepers during scheduled talks at 11 a.m. each day. Visitors also will have the opportunity to see wolf pelts, study bones and explore the adaptations that make wolves agile, expert hunters.
The event is included with regular admission.
The ABQ BioPark is an accessible facility and a division of the Cultural Services Department, City of Albuquerque, Richard J. Berry, Mayor. We are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and a member of the American Public Gardens Association.
