Once a member of Al Hurricane’s band, he started his own band after a 10 ear collaboration with the local legend. In 2011 Gonzalo received New Mexico Hispano Music Awards for CD of the Year, Producer of the Year, Cumbia of the Year, and Duet of the Year. He continues to travel and perform all over the southwest with his seven-piece band. Be sure to catch his performance on the gazebo during Fiestas de Albuquerque.

History

Every April since 1988, the founding of Albuquerque has been celebrated by reflecting the historic eras: Native American, Spanish, Mexican, Territorial and Statehood. The celebration commemorates a unique and historic event: the birth of our city. The event honors Governor Cuervo y Valdés for his vision, and honors the first community. It also pays tribute to every generation that has contributed to the growth and prosperity of this enchanted city that was named the Villa de Alburquerque in 1706. The founding of Albuquerque is a success story worth celebrating.

Gathering of Nations Pow Wow @ Powwow Grounds
Apr 25 – Apr 27 all-day

EXPERIENCE NORTH AMERICA’S BIGGEST POWWOW

APRIL 25, 26 & 27, 2019

at the Powwow Grounds – Tingley Coliseum /Expo New Mexico
Albuquerque, NM, U.S.A.

In the past 36 years the Gathering of Nations has grown from an early, simple dream to one of the world’s most recognized annual festivals.

From the beginning the concept has always been to produce an event where Native people can come together each year to celebrate and share culture, and a place where singers and dancers can feel confident that competition is fair to all.

From those genuine and humble beginnings that the Gathering of Nations Pow Wow has evolved into the event you see today, as well as its role in many community outreach efforts. None of this could be have been accomplished without the loyalty and dedication of good volunteers, friends and family.

It was here at the Gathering of Nations that “powwow fever” has shed its warmth on such a wonderful lifestyle, and continues to be of great appeal and intrigue to young people interested in learning more about their own personal tribal traditions and the powwow way.

Flint Carney, a long time friend and member of the Kiowa tribe, who said, “The greatest thing about the Gathering of Nations is the respect that is shown to all Native people of the world.”

This is the way of powwow life and teachings, which are provided and handed down from the elders to the younger generations. The Gathering of Nations experience does not end when you leave and head for home, but rather continues in your heart and mind, remains with you down the road to the next event, powwow or your own personal family gathering(s).

Many people from around the world have made the Gathering of Nations Powwow their travel destination. The Gathering of Nations has grown to become more than just a “Powwow”, it’s an experience!

  • Thee Gathering of Nations has had the opportunity to blossom into the most enjoyable, cultural, and entertaining Native festival in North America.
  • Open with the Gathering of Nations song for grand entry, the powwow program also includes the crowning of Miss Indian World. Its pageantry, along with its cultural beauty, exemplifies the pride and dignity of the culture and traditions of Native women across the United States and Canada.
  • Only at the Gathering of Nations will you partake in the isles of shopping throughout the Indian Trader’s Market, enjoying the best of native foods, Horse & Rider Parade, music on Powwow Alley’s Stage 49 featuring the Best in Native American Music Performances and Entertainment!

Las Vegas Rough Rider Motorcycle Rally
Jul 27 – Jul 29 all-day

Rough Rider Motorcycle Rally (July 27–July 29): Inspired by Theodore Roosevelt and his Rough Riders, and their reunion held in 1899 in Las Vegas, this annual gathering of motorcycle riders from all over the country honors that camaraderie and sense of honor. There are lots of iron horses, interesting characters, three days of live music, a motorcycle rodeo, a bike show, and competitions.

About Us

Welcome to the 13th Annual Rough Rider Motorcycle Rally in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Always held on the last full weekend of July, this Rally was started by local motorcycle riders who came together in 2005 to plan a Rally around the area’s history and special environment. The name was chosen because Rough Riders had a long tradition in Las Vegas.

Early in 1898, Theodore Roosevelt recruited the 1st Volunteer Calvary Regiment from the western territories—New Mexico wouldn’t become a state for fourteen more years. He chose to enlist these men because of his confidence in their ability to adapt, their self-sufficiency and their spirit. The regiment’s performance during the Spanish-American War proved his belief in the frontier character. The men he chose came from various backgrounds and circumstances. Even so, these men all formed strong personal ties. Led by Theodore Roosevelt, the first reunion of the regiment was held in Las Vegas in 1899. Over 600 of the original 1000 soldiers attended. During the next 70 years, Rough Rider reunions were held to honor the regiment’s military service, but especially to celebrate the camaraderie and unique personalities that defined the Rough Riders.

Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders

For the past twelve years, the Rough Rider Motorcycle Rally has brought motorcyclists from all walks of life, where camaraderie, unique bikes and personalities characterize the western spirit. Las Vegas’ historic Bridge Street which enters into our expansive Plaza is the backdrop for the Rally. Shops, businesses, vendors and restaurants provide rally goers the opportunity for unique experiences. The roads radiating out of the town and wind thru amazing scenery and villages give riders of the iron horse a variety of options. Check out the schedule of events for updates. Don’t forget to support the Rally and purchase a ticket for a round trip for two, to Las Vegas, Nevada with $500 spending cash. Be part of the tradition started by Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders over 100 years ago and ride in on your iron horse on the last weekend in July.
