New Mexico Italian Film & Culture Festival
Mar 13 – Mar 18 all-day

The NM Italian Film & Culture Festival has been delighting audiences and gathering fans since 2007 when its founder, Ronaldo Patrizio-Steiner staged a four-day celebration of Italian cinema as a benefit for the University of New Mexico Children’s Hospital. That first festival featured 12 films and a buffet. It was declared a huge success both as an artistic and a fundraising endeavor. It became Ronaldo’s passion and his annual gift to the community.

When Ronaldo moved out of state he left the festival in the hands of Italian Festivals of New Mexico, the non-profit organization he had established in 2010. Members of that organization, all volunteers dedicated to children’s causes and to showcasing Italian cinema and culture in New Mexico, stepped forward to continue the tradition.

Festival 2018 benefits NDI New Mexico, which brings award-winning arts and healthy lifestyle programs to underserved children in urban, rural and Native American communities throughout New Mexico.

Thanks to our volunteers and to the enthusiastic, enduring support of our patrons and sponsors, this award-winning festival has become the largest, most significant Italian event in the state.

Now in its 11th year, Festival 2018 features another strong lineup of recent, award-winning and highly-acclaimed Italian films in their local premieres. All films are in Italian with English subtitles and include a great mix of genres, from comedy to drama to romance.

You don’t have to be Italian to enjoy this unique opportunity to explore contemporary Italy through the eyes and insights of celebrated Italian filmmakers. You don’t have to be Italian to savor the cuisine, people, sights and sounds that put our festival among the Top 5 Best of the City two years in a row.

Film buffs, music lovers, Italophiles and foodies . . .

Join us for the exciting Films & Events of Festival 2018!

Southwest Chocolate & Coffee Fest @ Expo New Mexico
Mar 17 – Mar 18 all-day

One stop shopping for some of the nation’s finest chocolates, coffees, cheeses, baked goods, candies, dips, sauces, wines, and beer.

Founded in 2009, the Southwest Chocolate & Coffee Fest brings together 120 purveyors of incredible chocolates, coffees, candies, teas, gourmet foods, and wine and beer.  While not sampling and shopping from these unique businesses, attendees enjoy live music, cooking demonstrations, coffee seminars, baking contests, and a Kids Zone with free activities and live cow milking demonstrations.

By creating an affordable and accessible environment, the event now attracts over 18,000 chocoholics and coffee aficionados, making it the largest chocolate & coffee consumer festival in the country.

The event has grown to include purveyors of all types of gourmet foods and proudly presents craft cheeses, artisan breads and baked goods, and unique sauces and dips.

The mission of the festival is twofold: 1) support the development and prosperity of small culinary businesses and 2) educate consumers of the farm-to-festival lifeline of both chocolate and coffee and the value of supporting local, culinary businesses.

Experience the Southwest’s most delicious festival! From coffee roasters and tea houses to cakes and donuts, you’ll find something for everyone. Enjoy kid-friendly activities, live music, contests and, best of all, sample premium chocolate, coffee and gourmet food.

History

Every April since 1988, Founder’s Day has celebrated the city of Albuquerque by reflecting the historic eras: Native American, Spanish, Mexican, Territorial and Statehood. The celebration commemorates a unique and historic event: the birth of our city. Founder’s Day honors Governor Cuervo y Valdés for his vision, and honors the first community. It also pays tribute to every generation that has contributed to the growth and prosperity of this enchanted city that was named the Villa de Alburquerque in 1706. The founding of Albuquerque is a success story worth celebrating.
